A suspiciously four-pronged cell

Just claimed quite unusual cell. The bulbs at the top are apparently integral part of the cell. They come from 2 diffrent branches and both branches join with the main cell (one of the joins visible in the left panel). Maybe they are mergers, we’ll see. For now, looks, like they belong.

oohh nice cell! w an even nicer large-ish glia merger lol, im sure it’ll have a lot to add too by the looks of those bald spots, lol

lol yep, 1 click (havent merged) and half a cell fills up FlyWire lol

Yeah, just started it. And there are no large mergers, just a weird soma, weird mix of bulbs and twigs and not so weird blank spots

not huge, but there’s this FlyWire glia cuteness, lol

Oh, didn’t even look “under” it

this is an astonishing cell, wow!! It’s huge!

Seems metabolically inefficient for cells to go back and forth like they do so often in fly brain. I wonder if we will see similar structures in mammalian brains.

Love this before and after! That’s a lot of missing branches.

It looks like some kind of exotic fireworks. Wow!

Definitely an oddly satisfying screenshot

Well, there’s still some gaps but I’ve been down every major branch and then some of this massive DM cell! Still far more complete than when I got it. Yellow are all my additions in this first. Red shows areas where I’ve trimmed off in the second. Third image is with brain mesh for an idea of placement and scale.

And of course, a link to the complete thing: FlyWire

I made a few FlyWire tweets with the before and afters from this thread. They’re so awesome!

For anyone interested to see a bunch of auditory neurons, here’s a deck I made that showcases a bunch of cell types with FW links in comments Christa’s Cells - Google Slides

these are amazing! Any thick fibre cells uncompleted yet? they look cool to trace/complete

That’s one long soma tract! FlyWire

Despite it actually looking suspiciously like the soma, that is just a bouton. I’ve been tricked by these a few times. Here’s the actual soma:
