Pyr Challenge 2: Mossy Fibers!

Our next challenge is live! This time we’re proofreading mossy fibers. Unlike in our last challenge, for this challenge there will be just one segment per task. Your aim will be to determine if each segment is a MF, and proofread those that are.

Learn more about identifying mossy fibers on the blog!

The Mossy Fiber Challenge will be available in our Pyr Challenges spreadsheet.

Good luck, and onwards to the mossy fibers!

Few Quick Tips:

  • You do NOT need to paste any links for each task in this Challenge (unless you need a 2nd opinion, etc. ofc!)
  • If you’d like, you can claim several tasks at a time and paste all the individual starting segments in at once to go through them more efficiently than constantly copy/pasting a single ID. Up to you!

Is that possible ? 2 Mossy’s on a same branch ?

If I have more than one Mossy Fiber from the initial segment (a merger), should I put all the IDs into the spreadsheet?

You can leave it in the comments

As mentioned in the blog post: “Mossy Fibers have approx. 1 to 3 of these boutons strung like large beads on an smooth branch in the CA3 dataset.”

Sorry, i’m dyslexic and have problems with reading. :smiling_face_with_tear:

Should we proofread all the projections from the boutons or just the main neurite?

No worries, I’m sure it’s helpful in general to have a repost of important info

Also, if the starting segment is not a MF, should we proofread it anyway?

I think just the main neurite, but could you link to an example to make sure I’m understanding you correctly?

And re: not MF, you don’t need to proofread just label.

Would you be okay with me adding this image to the blog post as an example? I will credit you.

Sure thing!

Is it possible, that an MF just ends inside our dataset?

Yes! They can indeed just end here in CA3.

If a segment is an MF, but doesn’t need any further proofread, what should I set in the “Proofread?” column?
